Train punctuality reaches new record high

Today sees Network Rail publish its second monthly report on train performance, a regular four weekly round-up of how trains across all the franchises on Britain's railways are performing.

Period 2, May 3 to 30 2009, saw 93.4% (91.7% last year) of services across the country arrive on time with 16 of the 19 train operators seeing improvement compared to the same period last year.

Nine operators saw significant movement in their performance (over two percentage points):
- Arriva Trains Wales : 95.6% (+2.6),
- First Transpennine Express : 94.7% (+2.6),
- First Great Western : 94.6% (+5.3),
- Northern Rail : 94.2% (+2.8),
- East Midlands Trains : 93.5% (+6.3),
- Southeastern : 92.9% (+2.5),
- National Express East Coast : 92.5% (+3),
- London Midland : 90.4% (+2.7),
- Virgin Trains : 84.6% (+3.8).

More car parking spaces at Preston station

The new multi-story car park at Preston station will open on Monday15 June. The expanded car park will provide an additional 469 parking spaces, making a total of 939 spaces available at the Lancashire station.

Train punctuality reaches all time record high

Over 1.2bn passengers last year (April 2008 to March 2009) enjoyed the best train punctuality ever recorded on Britain's railways as 90.6% of train services arrived on time². The highest since records began almost 20 years ago (1992).

Network Rail will invest over £55 millions

Network Rail will invest over £55m in Britain's railways over the Easter weekend. Rail engineers will work around the clock to replace old signalling, renew tracks, upgrade bridges and improve stations. Over the long weekend, this will see more than 4,500 people working a total of 200,000 hours.
