Oxford Street traffic free family day–23 May

From 12 noon until 5pm families and shoppers will be treated to a feast of free entertainment and thousands of giveaways and offers from many of the Oxford Street shops and restaurants. Major stores will stay open until 9pm.

London's West End is expecting to welcome record numbers of May Bank Holiday visitors this year, as families increasingly choose to holiday in the UK. On this very special occasion West End stores including Selfridges, Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, John Lewis, House of Fraser, Primark, McDonalds and Boots will provide thrilling family entertainment including live music, in-store offers, promotions and themed entertainment across the street. With so much going on – and at absolutely no cost – there's nowhere better to take the children this bank holiday weekend.

Oxford Street will celebrate the event with the great half-term comedy adventure movie, Night at the Museum 2. Street-based spectacles for kids and adults alike will introduce several new characters from the new film, out in cinemas 21 May 2009. What's more, as the kids safely roam the street, they will have the chance to have their photo taken with their favourite character from the film Night at the Museum 2 and families will even be treated to exclusive sneak previews of from four giant TVs.

To celebrate the birthday of the West End shoppers will be invited to take part in the record attempt for the largest pass-the-parcel, as a giant parcel, accompanied by a marching band, makes its way along Oxford Street. With hidden prizes between the layers from several of Oxford Street's largest retailers, families have the chance to claim some fantastic prizes to take away with them on the day.

More car parking at Micheldever station

There will be lots more room for parking at Micheldever station as work to create 32 additional spaces has completed.

Passenger satisfaction highest ever!

Passengers' overall satisfaction with us has jumped two per cent from last autumn to 87% - this is the highest passenger overall satisfaction rating achieved so far.

New link for visitors to Southampton Airport

With more and more people using the train to get to Southampton Airport this new footbridge will provide many passenger benefits. Lifts will be installed making it easier for those travelling with lots of luggage and providing much needed access for disabled passengers.

Train performance reaches an all time high

South West Trains had recorded the best performance figure to date. Between 17 August and 13 September our PPM (Public Performance Measure) reached 95.9%.

Pre-paid ticket collection from ticket machines

Our ticket machines now have a new facility to make buying tickets more convenient – so people can buy their tickets from our website or our Customer Service Centre and collect their pre-paid train tickets.

Working for a better environment

We are always looking at ways to reduce our impact on the environment. That's why we're working hard to cut energy use at our stations, depots and offices and have set ourselves a target to slash our carbon emissions by 2,000 tonnes over the next two years.

National Passenger Survey results

The National Passenger Survey, released by rail watchdog Passengerfocus, shows we are continuing to make improvements by delivering a safe, punctual and reliable service.

More tickets types available from ticket machines

Our programme to install 444 new easy-to-use machines across our network, which started in 2006, is due to be completed towards the end of this year.

New national fare structure for 2008

Since 18 May 'Apex' and 'SuperAdvance' tickets will be replaced by 'Advance' tickets. These tickets will have common terms and conditions with all Train Operating Companies and Railcard discounts will be available for most national Railcards.
