Crewe is the latest Virgin Trains station in Cheshire to pick up an award, recognising the involvement that Virgin Trains and the local station team at Crewe have had in celebrating 'Cheshire Year of the Garden 2008'.

As part of the celebrations a garden area was created at Crewe station. The design of the garden was the result of a competition that inspired local interest. A local college constructed the garden and a local Garden Centre provided the plants.

Virgin Trains Station Manager Crewe and North Wales, Sam Dixon, said: "The garden area has proved really popular with our passengers during 2008, and the local station team have really enjoyed looking after it, so we have decided that it will remain a permanent feature at the station."

Sam Dixon accepted the award on behalf of his station team from Chris Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Visit Chester and Cheshire in a ceremony held recently in Northwich.

Announcing the Award for Crewe Railway Station, John Hulme, Organiser of Cheshire Best Kept Stations said: "Virgin Trains and its entire team at Crewe should be commended and thanked for making this busy railway junction into a more hospitable and welcoming station. It is not just the garden that won the award but the way it was devised and developed. It has enthused both national and local interest in Cheshire's Year of the Gardens."
