Smoking to be stubbed out at stations

The ban will cover ALL stations, regardless of whether the platform is covered or not. The only places where smoking will be permitted are uncovered forecourts and car parks.

Andrew Fairbank, South West Trains' Head of Stations said: “We hope our employees and passengers will cooperate to help us comply with this new legislation and make our stations a smoke free environment. All stations will be provided with signs to clearly indicate designated no smoking areas.”

Under the new legislation, passengers found smoking on railway premises could be committing a criminal offence.

New facilities for passengers at Basingstoke
